Split sheets
A split sheet is the agreement that says who wrote what percentage of the song. BMI / ASCAP / SESAC and the MLC require a signed split with shares totaling 100% before they'll register a work with multiple co-writers.
Adding a split
From /splits, pick a track, then click + Add writer. Required fields:
- Collaborator name — as on their PRO account
- Email — for the e-sign request
- Role — writer / producer / featured / engineer
- Share % — Sonifide enforces 0–100 and blocks any combination that would total over 100
If you try to add a 35% writer to a track that already totals 70%, Sonifide rejects it with a clear error — you can never accidentally over-allocate.
Sending for signature
Click Send on any unsigned row. Sonifide emails the collaborator a request via Resend. The email includes the track, role, your share %, and a Review & sign → button. They don't need a Sonifide account — the link is personal and signature-bound.
You can resend every 48 hours. Each resend bumps the resend_count and writes an event to the split's audit trail.
Signing
The signer types their name, accepts the E-SIGN consent, and submits. Sonifide records:
signed_at— UTC timestampsigned_ip— the signer's IP- The full event in the split's
auditarray
You'll get an in-app notification (bell) the moment they sign, plus a split_signed audit log entry.
Why this matters
Most PROs reject filings if splits don't total 100% or if a writer hasn't signed. Sonifide blocks you from filing at all until both conditions are met (see the Release Checklist). That single guard saves more registrations than any other feature.
